French Immigration bill: France Universités is satisfied with the Constitutional Council’s ruling

University Article published on 26 January 2024 , Updated on 29 January 2024

France Universités is pleased with the ruling made by the French Constitutional Council on 25 January 2024, regarding the “draft bill to control immigration and improve integration”, but will remain attentive to how the situation evolves. The council ruled that the proposed measures for students were anti-constitutional, which include the introduction of a guarantee deposit and a blanket increase in tuition fees for non-EU students without exception.

France Universités has stated that it will remain attentive to the situation. Its university presidents have reaffirmed their commitment to making France the leading country in the European Union for international students and that they will be proactive in finding solutions to achieve this.

Université Paris-Saclay had already reacted to the bill in December 2023, alongside seventeen other French universities, to protest against the measures proposed.
