The 2023 Shanghai Ranking: Université Paris-Saclay keeps its spot in the global top 20
ShanghaiRanking Consultancy has published today its Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for 2023. Université Paris-Saclay was ranked 15th in the world and 1st in continental Europe, confirming the university’s position as a world-class researchintensive university.
For the fourth year in a row since its creation in 2020, Université Paris-Saclay has appeared in the top 20 of the Academic Ranking of World Universities. The international recognition of the quality of research at Université Paris-Saclay is the result of the hard work and enduring investment made by researchers, academics and staff working in the university’s 230 laboratories and more generally by its entire community. The university’s performance in this year’s ranking reinforces its strong commitment to tackling major societal challenges and to meeting the expectations placed upon the institution.
The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was first published in 2003 by the Center for World-Class Universities (CWCU), Graduate School of Education (formerly the Institute of Higher Education) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. The annual ranking evaluates the world’s top 1,000 higher education institutions based on six criteria, including the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of Highly Cited Researchers and the number of papers published in Nature and Science. Université Paris-Saclay is home to two Nobel Prizes, including Alain Aspect, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2022, and ten Fields Medals, including Hugo Duminil-Copin, 2022 Fields Medallist, in addition to 24 Highly Cited Researchers.
While the Shanghai Ranking’s criteria focus on research quality and reputation, Université ParisSaclay also plays a leading role in providing full-time and continuing higher education to the citizens of today and tomorrow, and also in innovation, through its involvement in the development of research results.
