Objectives

The objective of the "Foresight Modeling: Economy, Environment, Energy" program in the "Environmental, Energy and Transport Economics" major is to offer training dealing with all questions modeling issues. energy, climate and natural resources, in particular from the perspective of foresight on climate, energy and the environment. The disciplinary fields taught include: economic theory and its applications to decision-making (cost-benefit analyses, decision-making under uncertainty, etc.); integrated modeling tools, statistical and econometric methods as well as the necessary IT resources.

Course Prerequisites
Students who have validated the M1 of the EEET mention or an M1 of economics with a quantitative dimension, finance or applied mathematics. Students with a bac +4 level acquired in an Ecole Normale Supérieure, an Engineering School, a Business School or any French or foreign training deemed equivalent by the selection comittee are also admitted.
Skills
  • Etre en capacité de réaliser des travaux de modélisation prospective et des études d'impact à l'aide de modèles intégrés énergie-environnement-économie.

  • Etre en capacité d'expertiser des travaux de modélisation prospective dans le champ énergie-environnement-économie.

  • Maîtriser les outils et méthodes nécessaires à la recherche en économie de l'environnement et de l'énergie dans le but de préparer une thèse.

  • Contribuer, grâce aux outils scientifiques et aux instruments économiques, à la résolution des problèmes environnementaux et de développement durable pour une gestion raisonnée des ressources.

  • Concevoir des outils permettant des analyses quantitatives des aspects économiques et environnementaux et de nouveaux modèles économiques intégrant des critères sociaux et environnementaux dans une entreprise ou une administration.

  • Participer à des travaux pluridisciplinaires d'évaluation de scénarios climatiques et de transition énergétique.

Post-graduate profile

At the end of the training, students are able to: - analyze the markets (supply and demand) as well as the technological and financial aspects of the sectors concerned; - understand and apply the concepts of needs analysis and project management; - carry out and interpret/appraise prospective studies, using the methods - including modeling - and the necessary software; - develop a multi-criteria analysis method in the development of strategic intervention choices; - know how to put project management and risk management tools into practice; - develop business plans to study project profitability and financing; - organize the coordination of actors in order to make the proposed solutions operational; - model and quantify an economic phenomenon (econometrics, operational research, simulation methods); - understand the mechanisms and institutions at work in public policies and negotiation strategies; - understand environmental, climatic, food and energy issues; - develop original research projects by mobilizing empirical knowledge of the sector and cutting-edge analysis tools from the academic discipline.

Career prospects

The “Prospective Modeling: Economy, Environment, Energy” program has a more marked “research” orientation than the other M2 progams in the specialty "Economics of environment, energy and transport". It is particularly aimed at a continuation in the phD program (1/3rd of the graduates).  It is also intended for service and consulting professions. The main outlets include research department of large companies and decision-making centers (public service, international organizations) as well as academic research (large international integrated research programs on climate , land use, energy transition, etc.).

The program emphasizes quantitative methods intended for prospective approaches on energy/climate/environment aspects.

In terms of jobs, graduates occupy the following positions: research and development manager; business economist; responsible for technical-economic studies; engineer/economist in a design office, a consulting firm, a local authority, or an international organization; researcher (if completing a phD).

Modalités description

Applications are open for a direct entry in M2 between mid March and end of May. Early applications are recommended.

Applicants must have a bac + 4 (i.e. 4 years of university) training, with good skills in maths, economics, statistics computer sciences.

Note that some of the lectures are in French and that a decent knowledge of the French language is necessary to apply to a direct entry in M2

Compulsory supporting documents
  • Motivation letter.

  • All transcripts of the years / semesters validated since the high school diploma at the date of application.

  • Certificate of English level.

    (English language level certificate B1 (IELTS : score 4/5 ; TOEIC : score 550/760 ; TOEFL IBT : score 42/71 ). In the absence of official proof, level B1 certificate issued by the English teacher or transcript specifying level B1)
  • Curriculum Vitae.

  • Detailed description and hourly volume of courses taken since the beginning of the university program.
