Université Paris-Saclay: plans to fully integrate the Universities of Evry and Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines are confirmed
The governing bodies of Université Paris-Saclay, and the universities of Evry (UEVE) and Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) have approved the main terms of the project to fully integrate UEVE and UVSQ into Université Paris-Saclay. The integration is set to take effect on 1 January 2025.
Following a Governing Board meeting held on 14 January 2023, the drive to fully and securely integrate the three institutions, through the changing of statutes and in accordance with national decrees, is now a shared ambition. The main aspects of this institutional advancement are focused on:
- Establishing an undergraduate school which will be shared by the three universities and will coordinate national undergraduate degrees. It will be based on a mutual agreement between the three institutions defining their objectives, the structural principles of the course offer, and the dedicated means of support.
- Ensuring that all undergraduate double degrees, Masters and PhDs are accredited by Université Paris-Saclay.
- Developing a single research policy with a simplified, single signature for scientific work, which will be developed alongside cotutelle institutions.
- Coordinating support activities, of which the deployment will be determined by services from the three universities in conjunction with their staff, achieving simplified mutual operations and, as a result, better service.
- Conserving each university’s moral and legal personality in order to establish a governance model and service for staff and students which meet their needs as closely as possible, and to facilitate each university’s ties and projects with their local areas and the socio-economic world, taking into consideration the individual legacies and experiences of each institution.
- Changing the names of the universities of Evry and Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to mark the integration, although the finalised names are yet to be defined.
This model will not only consolidate the achievements made by the university’s current 14 constituent institutions, but also develop actions shared by the university’s stakeholders on shared issues. It will allow Université Paris-Saclay, as well as its members and partners, to secure its objective as an internationally renowned research-intensive university, both today and in the long term.
